The site we were given offers great opportunities to engage with all its surrounding elements. To the north, we have Museum Park and the Perez Art Museum. To the south, we have the American Airlines Arena.
To the west, world renowned architect Zaha Hadid has designed one of the world’s most luxurious skyscrapers. During our research, three main nodes were identified that we believe happen to crucial to the development of the site. To the west, we have Downtown Miami. To the north, Museum Park and its adjacent museums. To the east, we have the port and the views of Downtown Miami. These elements gave us a direction for our design. Rather than creating a structure that would compete with the surrounding areas, we decided to create a true public urban area that would better serve and enhance the location.
After identifying these nodes, we were concerned on how they would tie together. We worked with circulation diagrams that would better inform us about the flow of people to and from the site. The result of these studies proved to be crucial to the heart of a project, which is giving Miami a true functional urban space.
