Maker Square
After research and analysis from our trips to London and Berlin combined with researchof population trends in Miami I sought out to create a master plan for Little River whichwould not just revitalize a long forgotten area of Miami, but also create a thrivingcommunity of artist and innovators to brand Little River as the hub for Miami's brightestand most creative. The first half of the semester was focused on creating a master planthat would improve the pedestrian experience of the city while creating intimate spacesalong a main precession to be used for exhibitions, performances, public gatherings andmore. Zooming in, my concept for the Little River site is a community orientedmakerspace which along with over 40 studio apartments and 16 hotel rooms offers itstenants a fully loaded wood shop, design studio, exhibition space, labs, lecture halls andmore to encourage a community of artist and innovators working with one another tocreate unique collaborative projects that will bring people from all over the world toLittle River. On a public level, the makerspace “Maker Square” offers a large gallery withcurrent and past work of inhabitants, a beautiful lush rooftop sculpture garden, classeswith the innovative residents of the space as well as many other amenities which giveback to the community and enhance Little River as a whole.
